MELISSA MCLANEY TO REPRESENT "ALABAMA" IN THE
"MRS. AMERICA" COMPETITION
BIRMINGHAM, AL - June 20, 2009 ---

Melissa McLaney of Dothan was crowned Mrs. Alabama America 2009 on Saturday night. The pageant took place at the Wright Center Concert Hall on the campus of Samford University. Mrs. McLaney competed with other married women from across the state of Alabama in beauty, poise and personality, swimsuit and evening gown competitions for the title. She and her husband Frankie are the proud parents of a 6 year old son named Grayton.
As one of her prizes, Melissa will receive an expense paid trip to represent Alabama in the MRS. AMERICA COMPETITION at the exclusive Loews Ventana Canyon Resort in Tucson, Arizona which will be held on September 8, 2009. There she will compete for the title of MRS. AMERICA with contestants from all fifty states and the District of Columbia. The new MRS. AMERICA will then go on to represent the country in the MRS. WORLD Pageant which will be held in November 2009 in Vietnam, Ba Ria - Vung Tau..
"I think Melissa is a great representative for today’s married woman and I look forward to working with her this year, " said Rhonda Garrett Gilliam, Executive Director, of the Mrs. Alabama America Pageant snce 1991.

Final Results:
First Runner Up and Mrs. Photogenic: Jennifer Beaver from Trussville will assume the duties of Mrs. Alabama America 2009 if for some reason Melissa McLaney cannot fulfill her responsibilities.
She was also chosen by the judges as "Mrs Photogenic. This Award exemplifies beauty through the lens of a camera.

Second Runner Up and Mrs Congeniality:
Julie Purinton from Tuscaloosa. She was also chosen "Mrs. Congeniality". This award reflects the respect and admiration of the delegate’s peers, who voted for her as the most congenial, charismatic and inspirational participant.

Third Runner Up:
Jessica Kirkes from Birmingham

Fourth Runner Up:
Ryan Green from Homewood

Remainder of Top Eight: Natalie Gould from Chelsea, Jessica Welch from Odenville and Curtia Moon from Rockford.

Here are a few pics from the best fashion show Bham has ever seen! It was so much fun and our models definitely rocked it out. Together the models raised over $8000 for Children's Hospital and the show sold out so overall a huge amount was made for children's. Thanks to all who came to support!!! Heidi Elnora is the best!

For those of you who don't know. I work for Project Runway's Heidi Elnora! This is THE most exciting job I have ever had. The past month Heidi and I have went to Birmingham-Southern, UAB, and Samford in search of 9-11 models. We also had many girls contact us if they couldn't attend the auditions and they emailed us their info. Out of almost 60 girls in hopes of "Rocking the Runway" we have narrowed our search down to 21 girls!!! These girls will attend a semi-finalist audition on Monday, April 6th at 6:00p.m. at Heidi Elnora in Cahaba Heights. These girls will have the chance to appear in one magazine, two tv and radio broadcasts, and of course...ROCK THE RUNWAY!!!! Once I have recieved all their pics I will post the semi-finalist!

Yesterday I got to vistit the Capitol and meet Governor Bob Riley!!! I must say it was a great experience. Not what I expected but I was glad to shake the Governor's hand. I also was accompanied by Mrs. Alabama United States Rachel Juillerat, Miss Teen Alabama United States Abbey Porte, their director Rena Lantrip and friend Terri Crump Bolen. Thanks to them I have these wonderful pictures!!!! They were all so sweet and it was a joy to spend some time with each of them. Also, special thanks to Kathy Johnson for making this happen. She was a joy also!!!

This was the most fun photo shoot I have ever done. Not to mention the fact that I was absolutely freezing because it was 32 degrees that night! Heidi is such a wonderful designer and friend. I finally decided to create a blog! So I will begin by telling you the reason I decided to start bloging. Mrs. America is having a competition between all the 2009 Delegates. Whoever can raise the most money and get the most signatures for a petition reguarding Music Education will win a trip to Vietnam for the Mrs. World Competition where she will actually crown Mrs. World 2009!!!! I have a long way to go and need all the help I can get. :)

Petition for Equal Access to Music Education
Be it resolved that we, the undersigned, agree that all Americans should work to enhance and support music
education in our nation’s schools. To that end, we call on the U.S. Department of Education and all American
leaders to:
• Mandate that music and the other arts be part of every child’s core curriculum;
• Ensure music and the other arts are included as a part of a balanced education addressing the whole
child, to prepare them for the creative thinking necessary for success in the work force of the future;
• Ensure qualified music teachers and sequential curricula be recognized as the basis for providing
all students with substantive education in music and the other arts;
• Ensure programs in music and the other arts provide rigorous instruction, monitor progress and
performance through meaningful assessment, and take place within a structure of accountability to
school officials, parents, and the community.
Be it therefore resolved that the reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, also known
as No Child Left Behind, not only identify music as a core subject, but also recognize music education as a
